/We’re pleased to share a recent project in Barnet, North London, involving the transformation of a large period detached home through a carefully considered double-storey rear extension and a modern loft dormer.
The design approach focused on enhancing the existing home with additional space and natural light, while maintaining a respectful relationship with the original period architecture. Rather than replicating historic detailing, the new interventions are expressed in a contemporary language, allowing the old and new elements to sit clearly alongside one another.
A key part of the design is the contrast between traditional character and modern form. The extension and dormer introduce clean lines and generous glazing, creating bright, functional spaces that support modern living while preserving the identity of the original building.
